It would have been ideal to have someone with us who knew the flora. I didn’t even try to identify the trees and ferns. The flowering plants were reasonably numerous, and of course many of them are endemic to montane East Africa. Especially interesting to me were the giant senecios and lobelias in the moorland zone. The following photos are roughly arranged by life zone. Please let me know if I have wrong identifications of any of them, or if you know the identity of those which are not labeled. d.logen@verizon.net

Mimulopsis gibberoa Impatiens kilimanjari
Impatiens pseudoviola

Lobelia gibberoa Parochetus communis

Trifolium cryptopodium Hebenstretia dentata

The color variations with Impatiens kilimanjari were interesting.

As was this white Impatiens pseudoviola. Douglas, our guide said he had
never seen a white one. These last two plants were on the Mweka Route, on our
descent.
